We covered about 480 miles today going from northern Texas to just above the Mexican border in the city of Laredo. Once we arrived at the company yard, we dropped our load to be carried to its destination by another tractor. Then, my husband made arrangements to have the A/C in our bunk repaired. Because sleeping in south Texas without air conditioning is rather difficult-even in October-we made a reservation at a nearby hotel, packed our stuff and went to the gate to wait for the hotel shuttle.
At this point, I’m sitting with my husband and dog in a rather nice little motel watching The Desolation of Smaug on TV. It would certainly be better for our budget if the A/C was working fine and we were spending the night in the tractor in preparation to head to a shipper in the morning. But, even so, it’s nice to be able to enjoy a little taste of ‘normalcy’ now and then. We have a bed, a fridge, a microwave, A/C and a bathroom within 10 feet of the bed. Not a bad deal when you’re used to having to walk across a parking lot to get to the bathroom most of the time. 🙂
So, now that I’m fed and showered, I’m going to enjoy watching TV with my hubby and then get some sleep. We’ve got big plans for our stay in Laredo tomorrow: Walmart, lunch in a restaurant that isn’t found in a truck stop and a movie in a real theater.
Good night readers and drive safely 🙂
