Recently we did a 34 hour reset at Jubitz Travel Center in Portland, Oregon. The business was established in 1952 as a haven for truck drivers during their time away from home.
Having been a driver himself, Mr. Jubitz knew what it was like to spend most of his time on the road, but he spent many hours of sitting with other drivers in the restaurant getting input on what they would like to see in this home away from home.
These are just a few of the various bits that make up the travel center. There was also another building which included the fueling station, another store, another deli and a large room upstairs with comfy chairs, a television, tables and outlets for computers and such. I spent much of my day at one of those tables or knitting in one of the comfy chairs. I do believe Mr. Jubitz accomplished his mission and that his legacy is being continued by those who inherited it. It’s definitely worth the visit if you happen to be traveling through the area.
Until next time, readers, drive safely out there 🙂
